Donald Trump Somehow Surprised the Governor of New York Wasn’t Nice to Him During the Democratic National Convention

The man who has never met an opponent he didn’t attack thinks Kathy Hochul was too mean to him.

The dozens of speakers who’ve appeared at the Democratic National Convention since Monday have had many unkind things to say about Donald Trump. Factual, warranted, and necessary? Yes. But not the things you’d say about someone whom you like and/or wouldn’t mind being the leader of the free world again. The president of the United Auto Workers called Trump a “scab.” Hillary Clinton reminded everyone that he’s been convicted of 34 felony charges. Michelle Obama referred to his many business failures and noted that he was saved by “the affirmative action of generational wealth.” Barack Obama mocked his “weird obsession” with crowd sizes. One former supporter said he was embarrassed to admit he once voted for Trump, while another declared that the former guy “disgusts me to my core.”

But the speaker whose remarks apparently hurt the ex-president the most? New York governor Kathy Hochul, who Trump, on Wednesday, bitterly complained wasn’t nice to him during her Monday night speech.

“Kathy Hochul, the very unpopular Governor of New York, was the nastiest speaker on Monday evening (at the Democrat National Convention) as it pertains to your favorite President, me,” Trump ranted to his Truth Social followers. “Her total hatred, and statements made about me, had no bounds. I was amazed for two reasons: Number one, I did a GREAT job in New York, employed thousands of people, built some of the most beautiful and successful buildings, and paid billions of dollars in taxes. Number two is that, on the very distinct possibility I will win the Presidency, wouldn’t it be better for the people of New York State to have a Governor who got along with the President? Adversarial relationships are not good in politics! Unfairly, I am before a very biased and hateful New York Judicial System that is appointed and largely controlled by the Governor. With the vitriol displayed by her on Monday night, it is no wonder that the Judges have treated me so badly. The whole system is RIGGED, and companies are leaving because of it!!!”

Trump’s complaints are, of course, completely absurd, for numerous reasons. For one thing, the claim that he did a “GREAT job” in New York is not entirely accurate. He has been accused of stiffing multiple contractors in the state and was found liable for engaging in years of rampant fraud there. His company was found guilty of tax fraud. The Plaza Hotel declared bankruptcy on his watch.

Meanwhile, the idea that Hochul should play nice with him because he might win the presidency and “adversarial relationships are not good in politics” is fully ludicrous. Hochul, like other Democrats, is doing everything she can to ensure he doesn’t win, and that includes reminding people what a nightmare his second term would be. Also, hello? This man’s entire existence is based on “adversarial relationships”! Trump literally threatened to withhold federal funding from New York during COVID! He spends most of his time attacking people on social media and has called his political opponents vermin! But now he’s beside himself because Hochul didn’t use her speech to say nice things about him.
